Troubleshooting Remote Voicemail Access

If you are having trouble checking your voicemail when dialing into your extension remotely, the issue is usually caused by one of the following:

1. Call Forwarding to Your Cell Phone

  • If your extension is set to forward or follow calls to your cell phone, and you then try to check voicemail from that same cell phone, it creates a loop.

  • In this case, your cell provider assumes you are trying to access your cell voicemail, not your work extension.

Workaround: Block your caller ID when dialing in.

  • On most networks, you can do this by dialing *67 before the number.

  • Some phones also allow you to hide the caller ID in settings.

2. Entering Password Too Quickly

  • When checking voicemail from an outside line, pressing the password digits too quickly can cause them to be misread.

  • Try entering your password slowly and deliberately.
