Connecting a Yealink Wi-Fi Phone to Wireless Internet

Before You Begin

When you receive your new Wi-Fi-capable phone, please connect it directly to your router using an Ethernet cable for the initial setup. The phone must be connected to the router so it can download its configuration and register with the phone system.

Once the phone has finished provisioning and your extension number appears in the upper-left corner of the display, you can proceed with connecting the phone to your Wi-Fi network using the instructions below.

After successfully connecting the phone to Wi-Fi, disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cable, then move the phone to its desired location within your office. Reconnect the power, and the phone should automatically reconnect to your wireless network.

Step 1: Access the Wi-Fi Menu

  1. Press the Menu button.
  2. Navigate to Basic or Network (varies by model).
  3. Select Wi-Fi.
  4. Toggle Wi-Fi to Enabled if it is not already enabled.

Step 2: Scan for Available Networks

  1. Select Available Network(s).
  2. Wait for the phone to scan for nearby wireless networks.
  3. Highlight your Wi-Fi network (SSID).
  4. Press Connect.

Step 3: Enter the Wi-Fi Password

You will now be prompted to enter your wireless password.

Understanding Input Modes

The phone uses different input modes for entering letters, numbers, and symbols.

Press the # (Pound) key to cycle through:

  • abc (lowercase letters)
  • ABC (uppercase letters)
  • 123 (numbers)
  • Symbols

The current input mode is displayed on the screen.

Entering Letters

Use the keypad similar to old-style text messaging:

  • Press 2 for A, B, or C
  • Press 3 for D, E, or F
  • Continue as needed

For example:

  • Press 7 once = P
  • Press 7 twice = Q
  • Press 7 three times = R
  • Press 7 four times = S

Entering Numbers

Press # until the display shows 123.

You can now enter numbers directly.

Entering Special Characters

Press # until you reach Symbols mode.

Common special characters include:

  • !
  • @

  • $
  • %
  • &

  • _

If the symbol you need is not visible:

  1. Use the Left/Right Navigation Arrows to move through additional symbol pages.
  2. Continue until the desired symbol appears.
  3. Select the symbol and continue entering the password.

Step 4: Save and Connect

  1. After entering the password, press Done or OK.
  2. Select Connect.
  3. Wait for the phone to authenticate and connect to the network.

Step 5: Confirm Connection

Once connected:

  1. Return to the Wi-Fi menu.
  2. Verify the network shows as Connected.
  3. Navigate to Menu → Status and confirm the phone has obtained an IP address.

Troubleshooting

Password Rejected

  • Verify uppercase and lowercase letters match exactly.
  • Confirm all special characters were entered correctly.
  • Re-enter the password carefully.

Network Not Visible

  • Ensure the Wi-Fi network is broadcasting.
  • Move the phone closer to the wireless router.
  • Re-scan for networks.

Connection Fails Repeatedly

  • Reboot the phone.
  • Reboot the router.
  • Confirm the network supports WPA2 or WPA3 security.
  • Verify MAC address filtering is not enabled on the router.

Easier Alternative

If entering a complex password on the phone is difficult:

  1. Connect the phone temporarily with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Find the phone's IP address under Menu → Status.
  3. Open a web browser and enter the IP address.
  4. Log in to the Yealink web interface.
  5. Navigate to Network → Wi-Fi.
  6. Enter or paste the Wi-Fi password from your computer keyboard.
  7. Save and connect.

This is often the fastest method when the password contains multiple special characters.
